A suspect who escaped police custody by using bed sheets and bath towels to climb out of a hospital window in New York City was re-arrested Tuesday after over a month on the run.

Yenchun Chen was first arrested on July 31 and charged with possession of a controlled substance. Officers took him to the hospital because of a medical issue on Aug. 4 and he escaped five days later.

Chen, who is 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds, was on the lam for 34 days before finally being apprehended.

The New York City Police Department confirmed to The Messenger that officers detained Chen in Manhattan on Tuesday, Sept. 12 and charged him with escaping custody.

The 44-year-old tied bed sheets and bath towels together to create a makeshift rope, dropped it out of the fifth-floor window of the Mount Sinai Beth Israel hospital in Queens and climbed down it to reach the second floor.

After using a ladder to descend to the first floor, Chen disappeared. Earlier this month, police said they had received no confirmed sightings of the escapee since he hailed a cab outside the hospital.
