A Nebraska woman who was beaten and sexually assaulted was able to escape with her son from her alleged attacker when he passed out, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said.

The woman, who was not identified, told deputies that she was at her home in Sutherland around 2 a.m. Monday when Juan Martinez arrived uninvited and demanded that she have sex with him, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

When the woman refused, deputies said Martinez sexually assaulted her.

"During the sexual assault he slapped and beat her face. When she attempted to leave he restrained her and beat her even more," the sheriff's office said. "She was able to escape with her son when Juan passed out."

Deputies said that her face was "bloody and swollen and her right eye was swollen shut" when they met with her at a local store after she fled with her child.

She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

When deputies arrived at her home, they found Martinez.

He was charged with first-degree domestic assault, first-degree sexual assault and false imprisonment.

Martinez is being held in the Lincoln County Detention Center on $750,000 bond.
