Wednesday Powerball is 10th Largest Jackpot in Game’s History, Third-Largest in 2023
Wednesday's prize has a $320.5 million lump sum payout, before taxes
The Powerball lottery has soared to its third-largest jackpot in 2023 and 10th largest in the game’s history this week, and the drawing for an estimated $672 million will be at 11 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s drawing has an estimated cash value option worth $320.5 million.
There have only been four Powerball jackpot winners this year, with the last one worth $1.08 billion, won in California on July 19. It was the third-largest jackpot in history and no one has yet to claim the prize.
The first Powerball jackpot was won this year on Feb. 6 in Washington state for a $754.6 million prize, which is the sixth-largest in history.
Powerball rolled to its new jackpot after there were no grand prize winners from Monday night. The numbers Monday were — white balls 2, 21, 26, 40, 42 and a red Powerball 9. The Power Play multiplier was 3.
There were more than 905,000 winning tickets Monday, according to the Powerball website. One ticket sold in Massachusetts matched all five white balls for a $1 million prize. There were 20 tickets sold nationwide that won the game’s second prize — 17 of them won $50,000 while the other three won $150,000 each.
If a player hits the jackpot Wednesday, they have the option of an annuitized prize of $672 million — before taxes — with one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% yearly. The other option is a lump sum payment of $320.5 million, which is before taxes are withdrawn.
