WATCH: 'Ring of Fire' Eclipse Dazzles Millions - The Messenger
It's time to break the news. The Messenger's slogan

Millions of sky watchers were dazzled this weekend by a rare “ring of fire” eclipse of the sun, which crossed North, Central and South America midday Saturday.

Saturday’s eclipse was different from a total eclipse, in which the sun is totally blocked by the moon.

This time the moon crossed over the path of the sun during Saturday's annular eclipse — but the distance between the Earth and the moon created a ring of light around the moon when it was centered over the sun.

If you missed the stunning eclipse, don’t worry. NASA livestreamed it.

NASA also used the unusual phenomenon for some eclipse-based science experiments, sending up three suborbital rockets during the eclipse to measure the Earth's magnetic and electrical fields.

The next total eclipse will occur in April.

While the eclipse was partially visible for much of the US, only a thin swath of states from Oregon to Texas were in the path of annularity — where the entire moon fit inside the sun.

Here’s how people reacted to and observed the “ring of fire.”
