Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited wounded soldiers at a New York hospital Monday, one of the first stops in his visit to the United States.

Zelenskyy visited soldiers at Staten Island University Hospital who lost limbs fighting in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

The soldiers were brought to New York by a charity that helps them get fitted for prosthetic limbs and complete physical therapy, according to a report by NY1.

“Thank you very much to everybody, to our soldiers and their relatives. I see some of them sitting here with their wives, sisters and mothers. Thank you to the staff and doctors who gave them the possibility for one dream: to live and to come back to us — home. Thank you very much for your support,” Zelenskyy said, according to NY1.

Zelenskyy is visiting New York for the United Nations General Assembly’s 78th session.

He is expected to give a speech calling for continued support for Ukraine in its effort to repel Russia’s invasion of the country.

He is also expected to travel to Washington, D.C. to meet with President Joe Biden and members of Congress.
