A graphic and disturbing video obtained and verified by the Guardian shows the heart-wrenching moments before and after reported Israeli airstrikes hit convoys of Palestinians fleeing Gaza.

At least 70 people — many of them women and children — were killed Friday in the strikes, reported the Palestinian Health Ministry, after civilians were ordered by Israeli authorities to flee the Gaza Strip or face a major ground assault.

An additional 200 people were injured in the attacks, officials reported, according to the New York Times.

The explosions erupted on Salah-al-Din Road, a supposedly safe route that Palestinians were using to flee northern Gaza.

Following the blast, bodies can be seen carried away on the video, which can be viewed here. (Warning: the video is upsetting.)

A spokesperson for the Israeli Defense Forces insisted Sunday that there was no "targeting" of civilians in Gaza, but he did not rule out a "freak accident."

He said an investigation is continuing.

Another spokesperson claimed Hamas was blocking civilians from leaving the area.
