WATCH: Ukraine Blasts Massive Russian Landing Ship in Crimea
Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk quipped that 'the fleet in Russia is getting smaller and smaller'
Ukraine took out a Russian landing ship during the early morning hours of Dec. 26, according to reports — and footage of the explosion is being shared on social media.
The Kyiv Independent reports the ship was the Novocherkassk, which was built in 1987. It was obliterated at approximately 3 a.m. local time in an air strike.
The ship, which has a displacement of 2,800 tons, was docked in Feodosia in Crimea, which was captured by Russia in 2014. It was reported to be carrying Iranian-made munitions.
The ship came under attack in March 2022, while docked in the port of Berdiansk in southern Ukraine. The Novocherkassk, one of 12 Russian landing ships in the Black Sea, sustained damage in the attack.
Footage of the explosion was shared on X, formerly Twitter, and Telegram.
Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk claimed the ship's destruction, and noted in a social media post "the fleet in Russia is getting smaller and smaller."
