A 3-year-old selling paletas, a frozen treat with Mexican origins, might be Central Texas's youngest business owner.

Mareck Gomez, a Temple resident, is the owner of M&M Paletas. He has his own cart where he offers flavors such as lime and cookies and cream.

The business started when Gomez's parents realized that he wanted a toy every time they went to the store, KWTX reported.

”My husband came up with the idea he could have anything he wants as long as he works for it,” Mareck's mother, Katie Gomez, told the station.

M&M stands for Mareck and his 9-month-old brother, Malik. The family plans to let Malik help out with the business when he gets older.

Mareck puts 30% of his earnings toward savings, 25% toward business supplies, 10% toward tithing, and 35% toward toys.

”I ask him every time, 'How much do you want to put in the bank?' It’s pretty consistently about 30%” Katie said.

His parents hope that the paletas business is teaching Mareck life-long lessons.

”We want him to know that you can have anything in life if you work for it,” Katie said.

Mareck will be at the Harker Heights Dia de los Muertos festival at Carl Levin Park on Saturday.
