Woman Claims NYC Bar Kicked Her Out for Wearing Vintage Fur Coat
TikToker Alexandra Yvette: 'I thought he was joking'
A woman took to TikTok this week after she claimed that she was kicked out of a bar in New York City for wearing a vintage fur coat.
On Tuesday, TikToker Alexandra Yvette (@preraphaelitequeen) posted a video claiming that she was kicked out of a bar after she was questioned if the coat she was wearing was made of real animal fur, despite trying to explain that the coat was from the 1930s.
"I feel like I didn’t get the memo that wearing fur in New York is, I guess, really offensive," Alexandra said in the video. "I do feel OK with wearing vintage fur. I know some people don’t agree with that, but personally, it’s never bothered me. I would never buy a fur coat new."
The TikToker explained that she walked up to a “speakeasy” bar while wearing the vintage, mink coat. She said a man asked if her coat was real, which she confirmed but told him, “It’s really old, it’s from the ‘30s.”
But she said that the man told her it “didn’t matter” and that she needed to leave. “I thought he was joking, so I kind of just looked at him like, ‘Really?’ And he was like, ‘Yea, please go,’” Alexandra said in the TikTok.
She added, “It was just such an intense moment, I almost wanted to cry ‘cause it felt like a weird rejection, and I was questioning my morals.”

Alexandra, who is from California, has amassed more than 198,000 followers on the social media platform for posting fashion and vintage aesthetic content. Her video explaining the unique situation has amassed more than 468,000 views, with thousands of users saying that the bar was being “ridiculous.”
“I’m so over people not understanding that re-wearing vintage fur is extremely ethical,” one user wrote, as others pointed out that the coat would have otherwise ended up in a landfill.
Several users commented on the hypocrisies of the other customers and workers, claiming that the bar likely let in people wearing leather or served meat or dairy products. Alexandra wrote in a comment that she was “pretty sure half the people in there are wearing leather boots and will probably get a hamburger after.”
