A Family Affair: Grandmother, Mother, and Daughters Start College Together in Wisconsin
Three generations of Carthaginians
It's all in the family for three generations of this clan who have just started at the same Wisconsin college.
"It’s kind of crazy," Samantha Malczewski, a sophomore nursing student at Carthage College, told CBS 58. She shared her first day of school with her sister, Mia Carter, as well as her mom and grandmother.
Amy Malczewski, the middle generation, has worked at Carthage for several years and wanted to pursue a degree of her own.
The mom then had the bright idea for her mother, Christy Schwan, to enroll in the same program at the School of Business.
"I just feel proud to be watching my daughters grow up and be more mature and have new experiences,” Amy told local station WBAY.
“But now also to see my mom accomplish something that she’s always wanted to, and then even to accomplish something that I’ve always wanted to myself,” she continued, “I could probably burst; I’m so proud right now.”

After Christy retired, she always wanted to pursue her master’s degree, and now the dream is even more special.
"It’s just fun to be able to see them here when I’m on campus," Schwan told the station.
Christy hopes that the example she is setting teaches a lesson to her daughter and grandchildren.
"I want them to know,” she told the outlet, “that age is meaningless.”
“You can do whatever you want at any age that you want, and that learning is something that you do through your whole life.”
