For approximately a month, a dedicated Texas woman took various steps to save a stray dog who came to be fondly known around the community of Porter as Jughead.

The first time she spotted him late last month, Teri Goodnight — who has been trapping stray dogs for some three years — knew she had to help Jughead. The yellow dog — which appears to be a Labrador — proved a challenge, though. Lucky for Jughead, it was one she was more than up for.

"We thought he couldn't breathe, didn't know there was an opening at the other end so it became high priority to get him caught," Goodnight explained to KPRC. "But then we realized he could eat, he could breathe, he could drink but I still wasn't going to give up on him."

Today, what ended up being a the top-fill tub section of a gravity cat feeder, has been cut from Jughead's noggin. It is believed that on Oct. 21, the dog first got his head got stuck trying to get the cat food at the bottom of the plastic canister.

Others tried but failed to rescue Jughead. But where they faltered, Goodnight soared.

She said she spent hundreds trying to corral Jughead, who was often seen traveling with another stray, known as Red.

Both Jughead and Red were caught in a cage Goodnight had set up with food.

"It's been an everyday effort to try and get him since then," Goodnight told the station. "I literally cried for 10 minutes after I caught him. I just broke down, started crying. I was relieved it was over."

Jughead and Red are now in the care of the East Texas Hoof and Paw Animal Rescue.

It was unclear if anyone was trying to adopt the clumsy pup or his pal.
