After more than 30 years on death row, Texas inmate Brent Brewer will be executed Thursday evening for a murder he committed in 1990.

Brewer, 53, was 19-years-old when he stabbed Robert Laminack, 66, to death in 1990.

Brewer had approached Laminack — a local businessman — with his girlfriend, Kristie Nystrom, and asked if they could catch a ride to a Salvation Army. During the drive, Brewer stabbed Laminack, and took $140 cash from the dead man's pockets.

On Tuesday, Brewer's final appeal for clemency was roundly rejected by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Brewer had argued one of the state's experts' testimony was based on outdated "junk science." A juror, the lawyers further argued, had also come forward, saying they'd mistakenly voted for the death penalty in Brewer's case.

A petition to the U.S. Supreme Court to suspend the execution was not ruled on.

The state's highest criminal appeals court also rejected appeals to delay the execution earlier this week.

Over the years, Brewer has filed a number of petitions seeking clemency, and has had his sentenced adjusted a couple of times.

Texas adopted lethal injection as its official means of execution in 1972.
