A 16-year-old girl who went missing while hiking in British Columbia's Golden Ears Park was found alive after surviving for over 50 hours in the woods, Canada's Global News reported.

Esther Wang set out on the East Canyon Trail with three friends Tuesday morning for a planned youth activity. They made it to a lookout by the afternoon and started down at around 2:45, but about 15 minutes later, the friends realized Wang was no longer with them.

They soon returned to the lookout but found no sign of Wang.

Dozens of volunteers helped with the search, but Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue paused the effort at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Just hours later, Wang emerged from the wilderness at the same location she'd left from and walked directly into the arms of her family, Maple Ridge News reported.

She said slept on logs and rationed her food while trying for days to find her way out of the wilderness. She suffered only bug bites and fatigue but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
