Suzanne Morphew Remains Found 3 Years After Vanishing on Mother’s Day Bike Ride in Colorado

The remains of the 49-year-old were found in a rural area of Saguache County in southern Colorado

“He’s [Morphew] the only one I suspected to be honest — because he was an arrogant a——,” Suzanne’s beautician friend, Tisha Leewaye, tells The MessengerFaceBook

The remains of Suzanne Morphew have been located three years after she vanished in Colorado, authorities said.

The 49-year-old's remains were found in a rural area of Saguache County in southern Colorado on Sept. 22, according to the sheriff's office in Chaffee County, where Morphew went missing. Her identity was confirmed by the El Paso County coroner on Wednesday.

"While this case has garnered attention from around the world, it has touched our community and the sheriff’s office deeply,” Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze said Wednesday in a news release. “We have never stopped our investigation and will continue to follow all leads in pursuit of justice for Suzanne.”

Her husband, 55-year-old Barry Morphew, was arrested in 2021 following her disappearance and presumed death, but first-degree murder charges against him were dropped last year.

Barry Morphew subsequently filed a civil rights lawsuit earlier this year against Chaffee County, prosecutors in the case and state and federal investigators, alleging that they had permanently ruined his name and reputation and asking for $15 million in damages.

Morphew disappeared near Maysville, Colorado, in Chaffee County in 2020 after going for a bike ride on Mother's Day. Her remains were ultimately found roughly 45 miles away, near the town of Moffat.

While Barry Morphew and the couple's two daughters maintained that there was nothing amiss between Barry and Suzanne, text messages obtained by prosecutors and first reported by ABC News showed Suzanne Morphew referring to Barry as "Jekyl and Hyde," and suggesting that the two may separate.

On Wednesday evening, Barry Morphew's lawyer released a statement, again saying he is innocent of any wrongdoing.

“From what we know, Barry is as innocent as he was from Day 1," the statement reads in part, also once again taking a shot at local law enforcement for the initial charges.

People who have any new information about Morphew's disappearance and death are encouraged to report it to the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office by calling (719) 312-7530.
