A 33-year-old man suspected of killing four people in Los Angeles was awarded $700,000 in a settlement from Santa Monica after he accused the city of negligence when a cop car reportedly ran over him while he was sleeping on the beach, according to a report.

In June, the Santa Monica City Council approved the settlement after Jerrid Powell, the serial killer suspect recently accused of targeting homeless people, filed a negligence lawsuit against the city, Law and Crime first reported.

He was reportedly in a shallow ditch on the beach when a patrol car ran over him while racing to a fire in 2019, causing injuries he described as severe, per the outlet.

Powell was charged with four counts of murder after police said they linked him to a shooting spree in Los Angeles that killed four, including three homeless men.

He was accused of murdering three homeless men on Nov. 26, 27 and 29, as well as following a California father home from an electric vehicle charging station and killing him in San Dimas.

Police are investigating whether Powell may be responsible for other killings. He is being held at the Los Angeles County Jail without bond.
