The suspect in the shocking quadruple murders of a mother, father, and two young sons outside of Chicago shot his alleged accomplice, then killed himself after a police chase 650 miles away, police said Wednesday.

Romeoville Police Deputy Chief Chris Burne said a man and woman who were identified as persons of interest in the murders and were located by police in Catoosa, Oklahoma — several hours' drive from the original crime scene Romeoville, Illinois.

They were found in a vehicle with gunshot wounds. The man was dead. The woman is in critical condition, Burne said.

Police identified the suspect as 31-year old  Nathaniel Huey Jr. of Streamwood, Illinois, but did not release the woman's identity.

Burne did not reveal a motive for the killings but said that evidence shows a "nexus between the suspect and the victim."

Burne said Oklahoma police attempted a traffic stop after receiving an alert on the vehicle, but the suspects fled from the officers which resulted in a crash causing the vehicle to catch fire.

Police heard two gunshots inside the car after the crash and found Huey dead, and the woman critically injured, according to Burne.

The bodies of Alberto Rolon, 38, Zoraida Bartolomei, 32, their two sons, ages 7 and 9, along with their three dogs were discovered by authorities in Romeville, on Sunday after went to the house for a wellness check. All were shot to death, police said.

Burne said the killings were not a "random incident” suggesting that the family may have been targeted.

Detectives and crime-scene investigators spent over 36 hours collecting "a tremendous amount of physical evidence" during their investigation into the killings, Burne said on Tuesday. He added that the Will County Major Crimes Task Force have been asked to assist with gathering evidence and reviewing video.

Relatives became concerned after a member of the family failed to show up to work Sunday morning and did not answer their calls throughout the day, according to police.

The killings took place sometime between Saturday evening and early Sunday morning and were not a murder suicide, Burne said on Monday.

Law enforcement did not issue a shelter-in-place order because the incident had taken place about 18 hours before the bodies were discovered.

Neighbors were stunned by the killings and a memorial of flowers and cards grew outside the home Tuesday, several local outlets reported.

"It's very said," neighbor Ociel Pineda told WMAQ Chicago. "Last night I cannot sleep. I am thinking it's a lot of crazy people... lot of crazy people. I lock all the doors."

A GoFundMe page to cover funeral expenses on behalf of the slain family has raised over $29,000.

"These were hardworking people that had just bought their first home. Their kids were the sweetest most innocent angels who could hug your worries away," the page stated.
