A St. Louis teen was charged with the murder of a woman whose car he allegedly tried to steal earlier this year.

DeShaun Harrs, 15, was charged Wednesday as an adult with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection to the attempted carjacking that happened on Jan. 24, First Alert 4 reported.

He allegedly fatally shot Kay Johnson, 37, while he and others tried to steal her car, according to prosecutors.

The woman and her 14-year-old daughter were reportedly pulling up to their garage when a vehicle with three people, including allegedly Harris, parked behind them.

Harris and another person then allegedly went to the passenger side and the driver's side of the car, pulled the door handle, and told Johnson and her daughter to step out.

Prosecutors allege that Harris fired a gunshot into the car, killing Johnson when she refused to get out of the car. The shooting was caught on surveillance.

She was later found with a gunshot wound to the face inside her vehicle in an alley in the 4700 block of South Compton Avenue, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Authorities later recovered a handgun outside Harris’ bedroom window and the coat he was wearing during the alleged murder. The Nissan sedan used in the carjacking was also stolen.

Harris is currently detained without bond.
