Spirit Airlines has fired an employee for putting an unaccompanied minor on the wrong flight, which resulted in the young boy being hundreds of miles away from where they were supposed to land.

Casper, a 6-year-old, was meant to fly from Philadelphia to Fort Meyers to visit his grandmother, Maria Ramos. However, Ramos ended up receiving a call from Casper explaining that he was in Orlando instead.

Fortunately, Casper was safely reunited with his grandmother but there were still questions about how exactly he ended up in Orlando in the first place.

After learning about the incident, Spirit Airlines announced it had "immediately launched a thorough internal investigation" to discover what went wrong.

Through surveillance footage, they discovered that a gate agent in Philadelphia had incorrectly escorted Casper to a flight heading to Orlando instead of Fort Meyers.

"This agent is no longer working with Spirit, and any individual whose actions resulted in the incorrect boarding will be held accountable for failing to follow our procedures," Spirit Airlines said in a statement. "We are also reiterating our procedures to the team, and we are in communication with the child’s family about this matter."

Ramos told Wink News that while she was "happy about getting answers," she is still working with Spirit in the hopes of fully understanding how her grandson ended up on the wrong flight.
