An Arizona man was shocked after he called a snake removal company to wrangle what he thought were just three snakes in his garage.

It turns out his garage held a company record for the most snakes discovered on a single call.

An unidentified homeowner in Mesa called Rattlesnake Solutions in Phoenix to remove the snakes after he noticed three rattlesnakes slithering around his property. He was in for a “sssurprise.”

Snake catcher Marissa Maki responded to the call and posted a video of the encounter on the company’s Facebook page. The video shows her enter the homeowner’s garage and her surprise when she sees not just three snakes, but a mass of slithering serpents.

“There’s a lot of babies back here,” she said over the cacophony of rattles. “There’s a lot of snakes in here.”

By the time Maki had collected each Western diamondback, she had 20 snakes in all. There were five adults – including a pregnant female – and 15 snakelets.

Maki said she suspected some babies had already left the garage and that two females had given birth. Western diamondbacks can reach 7 feet in length and are venomous. Ten to 20 babies can be born in a brood.

“I’m so glad to set a record for you,” the homeowner jokingly told Maki.

Maki released the snakes in the desert, where they took up refuge near a tree.

“That was a very fun call,” she said.
