Shootings on July 4 Leave Revelers Injured in Multiple US Cities
Shooting stretched into the early morning hours of Wednesday as people continued to celebrate the holiday
Several mass shootings across the country marred July 4th celebrations, including two children counted among nine victims at a Washington, D.C., shooting during at an outdoor party.
Assistant Chief Leslie Parsons in the Metropolitan Police Department's Investigative Services Bureau said the shooting, shortly before 1 a.m., appeared to be targeted as the party stretched into the early morning hours Wednesday.
He said a dark-colored SUV drove down the street, stopped and opened fire on the crowd. A nine-year-old and a 17-year-old boy were among the shooting victims. All are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Five people were wounded Wednesday around 2 a.m. in a shooting in Boston. All of the victims were expected to survive, according to WCVB-TV, and two suspects were taken into custody.
Police were reportedly investigating a blocks-long crime scene and placed yellow evidence markers across the large area. Boxes of firecrackers were seen scattered at the scene.
In Louisiana, three people were killed and six others wounded late Tuesday evening at a Fourth of July celebration.
Shreveport Police Lt. Van Ray told CBS News that two bodies were found when officers arrived and a third person died at a hospital.

An “enormous amount” of people were at the scene when the gunfire broke out, according to police.
There was no word on any arrests.
In Hayward, California, police were investigating a July 4th shooting that left multiple people injured around 10 p.m. during a large gathering on the street, KPIX-TV reported.
There were no arrests in the shooting and the exact number of victims was unclear. Police were expected to release more information on Wednesday.
One person was shot during the fireworks finale in Camden, New Jersey, also on July 4th.
A video posted to Twitter showed the crowd fleeing the scene as the sound of fireworks and police sirens filled the air.
Two people, including the shooter, were arrested, according to KYW-TV.
The victim was expected to survive.
In the Chicago suburb of Harvey, three people were shot in the parking lot of a Popeyes restaurant just after 6 p.m. as a large crowd filled the area.
WFLD-TV reported that two juveniles suffered gunshot wounds to their legs. A third victim also was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.
Police reportedly found a large number of spent shell casings in the parking lot. No arrests were reported.
