A 6-year-old girl was shot and killed in Texas while her mother was away planning the funeral of her son, who had been fatally shot less than two weeks ago.

According to the Dallas Police Department, the little girl was inside a home in Old East Dallas with other children. There was an unsecured gun in the home, which is believed to be the weapon that killed the 6-year-old.

Police have not named the shooter nor given any information on what happened beyond the girl's death.

The girl's aunt told FOX 4 that the young girl's mother was not at home at the time because she was planning funeral arrangements for her son, 14-year-old Ah'bralen Rider.

According to family members, Rider had been shot and killed on New Year's Eve.

"I’m trying to not cry, actually; I’m not. I’m trying to hold it in. I’m shaking right now," neighbor Marika Boyd said.

"It hurts cause I have a 7-year-old and like then I seen the little girl. Like when I do see them like going to school and stuff. That's sad."
