Sean Carpenter of Clay County, Florida was arrested Friday on four counts of child molestation of a victim less than 12 years old.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the 36-year-old repeatedly molested the unidentified child who was an acquaintance of Carpenter.

The victim reportedly told her parents about the abuse on Oct. 16. and a teacher raised concerns to law enforcement that the child was experiencing “potty regression,” which is often an indicator that a child has undergone sexual trauma, investigators told Action News Jax

Carpenter was a member of the Clay County Fire Rescue team and was at work in Keystone Heights when he was arrested.

“This piece of trash is a disgrace to not only his employers but also to anyone in public service who proudly sacrifice their lives to help others,” Sheriff H.D “Gator’ Deloach said at a press conference.

“He took full advantage of his position as a trusted first responder to defile a child’s innocence. He is an embarrassment to all of our fellow brothers and sisters in the fire service and we share in their disgust and disappointment for the shame he had brought down.”

The suspect is currently being held at Putnam County jail without bond.
