Shani Louk, Woman Paraded Naked Through Streets by Hamas, Is Alive, Mother Says

Shani Louk, the 22-year-old German-Israeli woman whose naked body was paraded through Gaza after she was kidnapped by Hamas and feared to be dead, is alive, her family said Tuesday.

"We now have more information that Shani is alive," her mother, Ricarda, told the German news outlet NTV.

Shani was at a music festival when she was abducted by Hamas militants during their attack on Israel on Saturday.

Her mother, who claimed she received word of her daughter's condition from unnamed Palestinian sources, said Tuesday Shani has serious head injuries and is in a Gaza hospital, NTV reported.

Ricarda called on German officials for help.

"Every minute counts," she said.

Shani, a tattoo artist, is among more than 100 people Hamas has claimed to have taken hostage at the outbreak of the war in Israel on Saturday.

She could be seen naked and unconscious on the back of a pickup truck in shocking videos showing terrorists parading bodies through the Gaza strip.

In one clip, Shani could be seen surrounded by militants and children, who are celebrating and desecrating her body.

A cousin told the Washington Post the family identified Shani – who was attending the Nova Festival in celebration of the Israeli harvest festival Sukkot – by her dreadlocks and tattoos.

"We were sent a video in which I could clearly see our daughter unconscious in the car with the Palestinians and them driving around the Gaza strip," Ricarda said in a video she released, asking for assistance in tracking down her daughter. "I ask you to send us any help or any news. Thank you very much."

Shani was also seen in videos taken just before the attack, dancing alongside festival-goers before the massacre that left hundreds dead.

Her aunt, Orly Louk, told Der Spiegel that her niece is a globetrotter who was raised in Israel but visited her family in Germany and had moved halfway across the globe to be with her Mexican boyfriend.

She said Shani refused to take up the mandated military service in Israel using her German passport, describing her as a "convinced pacifist" and a conscientious objector.

Speaking to CNN, Ricarda said her daughter was at a "music festival for peace" and was supposed to be a large, outdoor party for electronic music.

"She loved that," Orly said of Shani. "She was so exuberant and happy."

As of Tuesday morning, 1,700 people had died in the war in Israel with more than 1,000 Israelis reported killed in the Hamas attack and 700 Palestinians dead in the Israeli bombing of Gaza.

The Israeli military has also reported finding the bodies of 1,500 militants in its territory.
