Missing former NFL player Sergio Brown was "out of his mind" in the months ahead of his disappearance last week and was seen burning his mother's clothes last week before she was found dead, her neighbor alleged.

The body of Myrtle Brown, 73, was discovered in a creek near her home in Maywood, Ill. on Saturday, after her family could not reach her or Sergio, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined Myrtle died of “multiple injuries due to assault” and classified her death as a homicide.

Sergio's whereabouts are still unknown, according to police, though videos posted to Instagram appear to show him in Mexico.

Carlos Cortez, who lives near Myrtle's home and said he last saw the Browns on Thursday, told WBBM he provided investigators with footage from his security video camera.

“They seen him taking out the trash, and they seen him have a bonfire where he burned all her clothes,” Cortez told the outlet.

He said Sergio's behavior in the footage appears to be in line with what family members have told him about the former professional athlete.

“They said he wasn’t himself the past few months," Cortez said. "He was out of his mind."

Police are now searching for Sergio, 35, who played six seasons in the NFL before he retired in 2016.

Authorities said Tuesday they are probing a video uploaded to Instagram on Monday that appears to show Sergio calling the case "fake news."

In the clip, a man matching the appearance of Sergio claims the FBI visited his house in May.

"They kidnapped me twice from home, the Maywood Police Department," he says.

He adds, "It had to be the FBI or the Maywood police. I thought my momma was on vacation."

The man ends the clip saying, "That's f---ing fake news. Get the f--- out my goddamn face."

Carmen Rivera, a police spokesperson, told The Messenger that Maywood police were aware of a video circulating social media "in relation to Mr. Sergio Brown, who is still considered a missing person and are also looking its authenticity."

"Currently this is an active investigation, and the department is unable to share any further details at this time," Rivera added.

On Sunday, Sergio's brother posted a tribute to his mother on Instagram and also pleaded for his brother to return.

"My brother Sergio is still missing. If anyone knows where he is, I want him to know that I love you, and please come home," Nick Brown wrote.
