Search for Woman Who Vanished on Yoga Retreat in Guatemala Ends with No New Evidence Found
Nancy Ng's family said witnesses were refusing to talk, adding to the pain of not knowing where she is
The search for a California woman missing in Guatemala for nearly a month was called off this week after locals failed to cooperate with private investigators.
Nancy Ng, from Monterey Park, vanished on October 19 while on a yoga retreat.
Authorities in Guatemala said they believed the 29-year-old drowned while swimming at Lake Atitlán, but her family said she was kayaking.
On Thursday, the Guatemalan government told ABC News that after searching 95% of the lake, they were calling off the search.
Ng's kayak was later found — but there has been no sign of her.
The U.S. Department of State and the FBI were reportedly involved in the search effort, while her family also hired investigators.
“The last two weeks have been a living hell because when we first got the news that she was missing, we just had so many questions,” Nicky Ng, Nancy’s sister, told KTLA on Sunday. “What happened? Where is she now? Is there a chance she’s alive? We didn’t know anything.”

ABC reported that many of the witnesses around the lake, who might be able to help with Ng's whereabouts, had not been cooperating with investigators.
The family has so far raised over $53,000 to aid in its search efforts. On the GoFundMe page, they said that a woman who was with Nancy when she disappeared has refused to speak with them as well.
"This woman’s silence has not only hindered our search efforts, it’s made an unbearable three weeks all the more agonizing," the family wrote Thursday, vowing to continue looking for Nancy.
