Florida Influencer Scammed Iowa Homeowners Out of $30,000: Prosecutors

Roberto Boligan denied the allegations, insisted he did not 'scam' anyone

A Florida-based influencer is accused of committing fraud and scamming Iowa homeowners out of $30,000.

Roberto Boligan ran the now-deleted Instagram account @bertocanfly, which had more than 160,000 followers. He is also the owner of Summit Software Systems, which he used to allegedly violate Iowa's Consumer Fraud Act by targeting homeowners at risk of foreclosure.

According to the Iowa Attorney General's Office, Summit Software Solutions had "deceptive, misleading and unfair features that had [the] capacity to deceive consumers," including tricking residents into believing the company was affiliated with the government and offering adjustments on mortgage loans.

Summit Software Solutions has denied these allegations but agreed to halt all "foreclosure consultant" services in Iowa.

"Summit Software provided a do-it-yourself software platform for individuals who may have fallen behind on their home loan payments," Boligan told Newsweek. "Contrary to what the recently published articles say, Summit Software did not 'scam' anyone."

According to Boligan, Summit Software reached a settlement with the Iowa Attorney General's Office because they "did not wish to engage in a long drawn out litigation."

He claimed that there were no findings of legal violations in the settlement agreement and that the services "were not marked in any untruthful way."
