Pregnant Colorado Mom Hit by Stray Bullet While Sleeping: ‘Babe, Call 911, I Just Got Shot’
Doctors decided to leave the bullet in the pregnant woman's shoulder as they didn’t want to place her under anesthesia for surgery
A stray bullet hit a 27-year-old pregnant woman last week while she was resting, sending her to the hospital.
Kendall Heinold of Aurora, Colorado told local station FOX31 that she was sleeping when her family was awoken by gunfire.
“It was just a really loud noise, and then a lot of pain on my left side,” she told the outlet. “My husband was sleeping next to me and he got up and was like, ‘Did you hear that?’ Because it was so loud, and I just looked at him and was like, ‘Babe, call 911, I just got shot.'”
Sixteen-week pregnant Heinold was then rushed to the hospital where doctors found a stray bullet lodged in her shoulder. They decided to leave the bullet in her shoulder as they didn’t want to place her under anesthesia for surgery, per the outlet.
After returning from the hospital, the family said they found the bullet hole in their 5 and -6-year-old children’s bedroom.
“The bullet had come through their bedroom first,” Kendall told the outlet. “The bullet missed my 5-year-old daughter’s head by like a foot and went through their room, through my closet, and into my pregnancy pillow. The pregnancy pillow, honestly, I think is what saved my life because it went in through the side, and my arm was on top of it, so the bullet changed trajectory when it hit my pillow.”

Kendall told the outlet that she believed the bullet ending up in her shoulder was the best-case scenario given the circumstances.
“I don’t think I was targeted, I don’t think this was intentional, but I think people need to know when a gun is shot, the bullet goes somewhere,” she told FOX31. “That bullet traveled somewhere and it ended up coming into my home and it hit me. So, luckily, it missed my children and my baby and my dog and my husband, but ended up in my arm, which I think is best case scenario, considering, but still scary.”
