‘Fake News’: Instagram Posts Appear to Show Missing Ex-NFL Star Sergio Brown Rant After Mother’s Murder, Police Investigating
The former safety has been missing since his 73-year-old mother was found dead near her home in Illinois on Saturday
Police in Illinois are investigating videos posted on Instagram that appear to show missing ex-NFL player Sergio Brown as they continue searching for the former safety days after his mother was found dead in what officials say was a homicide.
In an Instagram video now under investigation, a man matching the appearance of Sergio says he thought his mother was on vacation and calls the incident "fake news."
The man also claims the FBI visited his house in May, unwarranted.
"They kidnapped me twice from home, the Maywood Police Department," he says.
He adds, "It had to be the FBI or the Maywood police. I thought my momma was on vacation."
The man ends the clip saying, "That's f---ing fake news. Get the f--- out my goddamn face."
"FBI had to do it, they got the power to do some s--- like that. What the f--- is going on? That is fake news. Don't come f---ing with me."

In the video, the man can be seen wearing a green tank top as loud music plays.
The clip is undated, but it appeared on Monday in a story posted on an Instagram account, @intplayerwithapassport, that also features other photos and posts with Sergio. The most recent post was published last spring.
"Maywood Police Department detectives are aware of a video that has surfaced on social media in relation to Mr. Sergio Brown, who is still considered a missing person and are also looking its authenticity," Carmen Rivera, a police spokesperson, said in a statement Tuesday.
"Currently this is an active investigation, and the department is unable to share any further details at this time."
Authorities have been searching for Brown, 35, since his 73-year-old mother, Myrtle Brown, was found dead in a creek near her home in Maywood, a suburb of Chicago, on Saturday. Relatives had reported both of them missing after they were unable to reach either of them late last week.
Brown's neighbor said the former football player appeared "out of his mind" and burned his mother's clothes before going missing.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, Myrtle died of "multiple injuries due to assault" and her death has been classified as a homicide.
In a second video posted after police commented on the initial clip Tuesday, the same can be seen quoting the Disney movie, "Finding Nemo," repeating, "Just keep swimming," a catchphrase from one of the film's protagonists.
The account's profile picture was also updated to one showing Nemo.
"What the f---? Missing? Ain't none of us finding Nemo," Sergio says in the clip. "What the f--- is going on? This is traumatic."
An earlier video that has since been removed reportedly showed Sergio with a location tag for Mexico City, Mexico. The Nemo clip was tagged as coming from the Sydney Opera House, which is near where the fictional children's movie takes place.
On Sunday, Sergio's brother took to Instagram, penning a remembrance of his mother and pleading for his brother to return.
"My brother Sergio is still missing. If anyone knows where he is, I want him to know that I love you, and please come home," Nick Brown wrote.
