Plane Crash in New Jersey Forest Sparks 100-Acre Wildfire  - The Messenger

A small plane crashed in Ocean County, New Jersey late Saturday night began a wildfire that was "0% contained" as of Sunday morning. 

According to The Lakewood Scoop, a small plane crashed at approximately 10:15 p.m. in a forest near Miller Air Park in the Lacey Township area neighboring Berkeley Township. 

While the Lakewood Scoop has a report that the pilot was discovered deceased, the Asbury Park Press reports there are no official details yet released about the pilot. 

Mid Jersey News reported the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office received a call of smoke in the area and the New Jersey Forest Fire Service went to the scene. The plane was believed to be a Skyhawk SP single-engine private plane, according to ABC6

The fire reportedly spread to the surrounding wooded area, creating a wildfire.  Mid Jersey News said multiple fire departments came in with a task force for structural protection. The Federal Aviation Administration and the New Jersey State Police RIC also responded to the scene. 

As of 11 a.m. Sunday, the wildfire had spread to 100 acres, and over 20 structures were affected by the flames.
