The Kansas mother who neighbors allege kicked 5-year-old Zoey Felix and other family members out of the house before the girl was brutally raped and murdered by an acquaintance had previous run-ins with police, according to jail records.

Holly Jo Felix, 36, was booked into the Shawnee County Jail in November 2022, records indicate.

In March, Felix pleaded guilty to a charge of felony reckless aggravated battery causing bodily harm with a deadly weapon against a victim. The victim is referred to in court documents as "ZF" with a 2018 birth date, The Topeka Capital-Journal reported.

In the same case, she pleaded guilty to driving under the influence with a child in the vehicle. Two domestic battery charges and a single charge of criminal restraint were reportedly dismissed at the time as well, according to the outlet.

Felix is currently on probation in connection with the incident.

She was also previously convicted of possessing stolen property and domestic battery in Nevada, and was at one point barred from having contact with Zoey's father, Ezepquiel Felix-Guerrero, as well as another victim believed to be Zoey's half-sister, per the Capital-Journal.

On Monday, Zoey was allegedly sexually assaulted and killed, according to the Topeka Police Department.

The little girl’s body was discovered in a field near a homeless camp she was reportedly staying at with her father, half-sister and their acquaintance Mickel Cherry — two weeks after her mother reportedly threw them out of their home.

Family members remembered Zoey Felix as "a sweet, funny and goofy little girl who had a great smile and laugh that lit up the world."

Cherry — a 25-year-old man who lived at the same residence as Zoey’s family before relocating with the trio to the homeless camp — was arrested Tuesday in connection with the incident.

He faces charges of first-degree murder and rape, according to police.

It’s unclear if he retained an attorney to comment on his behalf.

Neighbors said police and Child Protective Services often paid visits to the Felix's home. They said Zoey was often left to care for herself.

“Zoey has been on her own the entire time,” neighbor Sharon Williams told KCTV-TV.

“Everybody on the block took care of Zoey,” Sheryl Tyree, another neighbor, told the Capital-Journal. “Everybody loved Zoey, except her parents.”
