Two tornadoes touched down in different parts of Tennessee on Saturday, tearing roofs off homes and leaving 60,000 without power
Two deadly tornadoes tore through homes, schools, and small businesses in Tennessee on Saturday, killing at least six people, including a child.
One tornado passed through Clarksville, a city in northern Tennessee just north of Nashville, while another rolled through Rutherford, located about 140 miles west of the state capital.
At least three people have been reported dead as a result of each tornado, as The Messenger previously reported.
Photos and videos posted to social media show extensive damage, with collapsed roofs and debris littering residential streets.
At least 23 people were injured during the Clarksville tornado, officials said, adding that schools have been set up as a triage area or shelter zone.
“This is devastating news and our hearts are broken for the families of those who lost loved ones. The City stands ready to help them in their time of grief,” said City of Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts.

That tornado caused “significant damage” in the nearby cities of Gallatin and Hendersonville, officials said.
The second tornado took out a firehouse in Rutherford, Fox 13 Memphis reported. Weather officials characterized that tornado as a “particularly dangerous situation,” according to Fox Weather.
Nearly 60,000 Tennesseans reported being without power after the tornadoes hit. The Clarksville tornado continued northward into parts of Kentucky.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee in a statement to X, formerly known as Twitter, expressed his condolences for those who lost friends and loved ones, adding that he’s “praying for all Tennesseans who have been impacted by the tornadoes that swept through the state this evening.”
