A husband and wife were shot and killed just feet from their Philadelphia home, officials said.

Police said the couple was walking home around 3 a.m. on Friday after working their shift at a nearby bar when at least 18 shots were fired.

The 43-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man were found unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told local media that due to the spent shell casings in proximity to the bodies, it appears the shooter fired most of the shots at close range.

"Where we found these two victims was just one house away from where they live together with their family," Small said.

The couple's adult children were reportedly in the West Philadelphia home at 61st and Locust streets when the shooting occurred.

Officers found two phones, a purse and a gun still in its holster.

WCAU-TV reported that the woman kept the gun in her purse for protection but didn’t pull it on the shooter.

"It appears that gun was not fired nor was it even pulled from the holster...we don't believe that weapon was used," Small said.

Several neighbors called 911 after the flurry of gunshots.

Police do not have a suspect or motive in the case. The names of the victims were not immediately released.
