Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son, Suleman, are among those on a commercial submarine that was on its way to view the wreckage of the Titanic some two-and-a-half miles below the surface of the North Atlantic when it went missing.

Dawood belongs to one of Pakistan's richest families, according to the BBC. He is also a trustee at the SETI Institute.

Who was on the missing Titanic sub?

British explorer and billionaire Hamish Harding, 58, is also among the five people on the sub.

The other two people believed to be onboard the submersible called the Titan are French explorer Paul-Henry Nargeolet and Stockton Rush, chief executive of OceanGate, the firm behind the dive, the BBC reported.

The U.S. Coast Guard said a C-130 was assisting in the search and rescue operation, and a Canadian-flagged tug, Polar Prince, was en route to the Titanic wreckage site, according to data from MarineTraffic.

How much air is left on the Titanic sub?

The Coast Guard on Monday night said the passengers on board are believed to have 70-96 hours of emergency oxygen available.

OceanGate, an American company based in Everett, Wash., has been promoting survey expeditions to the wreckage to begin this summer at a reported price of more than $250,000 per customer.
