One-Hour-Old Baby Found Abandoned Near Planned Parenthood Clinic
The baby's parents were identified after police launched an investigation into the mother's welfare
Authorities in Texas launched an investigation after an abandoned newborn baby was left wrapped in a towel near a Planned Parenthood clinic in Plano.
According to Plano Police, the baby was found near Central Expressway and Plano Parkway around 2 p.m. local time on Wednesday.
A police statement said the newborn was "left at a local business in the 600 Block of N. Central Expressway in Plano." Planned Parenthood's Plano Health Center is located at 600 North Central Expressway.
Police said the baby was recovered after they received a call about a "male and female" who told bystanders that the child had only been born about an hour earlier.
The couple was later identified after an investigation into the mother's welfare.
The baby is currently in "good condition" at a hospital in Dallas, per police.
Texas has laws allowing parents to drop off infants at designated locations without fear of criminal charges, Plano Police noted in a tweet.

However, the drop-off must be done at a hospital, fire station, or EMT station.
"We would also like to remind the public of the Safe Haven law (aka the Baby Moses law)," they said in a statement.
The department added: "This law provides individuals who are unable to care for their child the safe and legal option to leave their infant with an employee at a designated safe place, [such as] a hospital, fire station, free-standing emergency centers or emergency medical services station-and will not be prosecuted for abandonment or neglect."
An investigation into the matter is ongoing, police said.
