Ohio Man Who Said He Was Run Over in Anti-Palestinian Hate Crime Charged With Lying to Police About Incident
Brothers Hesham A. Ayyad and Khalil A. Ayyad were both arrested on Tuesday
An Ohio man has been accused of lying last month about being the victim of an alleged hate crime, and instead sustained his injuries in a fight with his brother.
WKYC reports that the injuries Hesham A. Ayyad was treated for on Oct. 22 did not come from being hit by a car during a "racially motivated" incident — allegations repeated in a press release from the Cleveland chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
Instead, police in North Olmsted and North Ridgeville allege Ayyad was injured during an intense fight with his own brother.
Ayyad had claimed an unknown driver hurled anti-Palestinian slurs at him before running him down in the street.
However, police reviewed area video surveillance that they say shows the brothers violently fighting.
Ayyad was arrested on Tuesday, according to Cleveland.com, and charged with making false alarms, falsification, obstructing official business, domestic violence and assault.
His brother, 19-year-old Khalil A. Ayyad, was also arrested and charged with domestic violence and assault.
