Child Kidnapped by Hamas While Visiting Grandparents Turns 9 in Captivity

An effort was underway to get a million people to sign a digital birthday card for the boy

Ohad Munder. 9, was among the hostages released as part of a deal between Israel and Hamas.

Ohad Munder Zichri was getting birthday wishes from around the world on Monday as he was believed to be held as a Hamas hostage on his ninth birthday.

The boy was visiting his grandparents, Abraham and Ruthi, in Nir Oz when Hamas terrorists invaded on Oct. 7.

Ohad was kidnapped alongside his mother, Keren, and his grandparents, Abraham and Ruthi.

One of his uncles was killed in the attack.

He was described as a bright kid who loves soccer, tennis and solving the Rubik’s cube.

Keren’s partner, Avi Zachary, worked with Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Herzog, to create the digital greeting card. They hope to get one million greetings, and for Hamas to be pressured by the public awareness so created, the Jewish News Syndicate reported.

The Israeli embassy in Washington issued a statement saying: "We send Ohad and all those who were kidnapped strength and courage. We hope and pray we will be able to celebrate with them soon. Israel will spare no effort to bring them home, safe and sound."

People are being encouraged to sign an e-card for the boy in hopes that he would see it.

Among those who marked Ohad’s birthday was the Hapoel Be'er Sheva football club, his favorite team.

Players posed with copies of his kidnapped poster on Monday.

Kibbutz Nir Oz, a small farming enclave of 400 people bordering the Gaza Strip, was one of the first communities invaded by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7.

After the nine-hour attack, more than 60% of residents were gone — either missing and presumed kidnapped, or killed, longtime resident Jonathan Dekel-Chen told The Messenger.

Among the dead was a family of five that was killed shortly after messaging friends that they had taken refuge in a safe room.
