A car going the wrong way crashed into 9 people in Midtown Manhattan ABC 7 New York

A driver who fled from New York City police officers following an early morning incident struck multiple people and vehicles in Downtown Manhattan — including NYPD police cruisers — 10 blocks away from the city's New Year's Eve celebrations.

According to local news outlets and the New York Post, NYPD officers responded to a dispute around 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 at 7th Avenue and West 34th Street when a 44-year-old man fled and struck "several marked" NYPD police cars.

In the initial crash, the driver, who was not named, hit six pedestrians and one NYPD officer before fleeing down several more blocks and ending up on the sidewalk on Ninth Avenue.

Before the crash ended, the wrong-way driver also struck a food cart, leaving a 39-year-old woman pinned underneath, ABC 7 reported. Four other NYE revelers were also stuck.

All of the victims were transported to nearby Bellevue Hospital in stable condition; the driver was also transported to Bellevue, where he is in critical but stable condition. The charges are pending at this time.
