WATCH: Wild Images of NYC Flooding Show Cars With Water up the Windows and a Lake Inside LaGuardia Airport
'A boat would have been the best option,' quipped one Uber passenger, whose ride was nearly overtaken by water
Shocking photos show parts of New York submerged underwater, as torrential rain and downpours cause widespread flooding across America's biggest city.
Meteorologists forecasted that New Yorkers would see between three and five inches of rain on Friday.
Photos posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, by Steven Bognar of NBC New York show what appears to be several inches of water inside Terminal A at LaGuardia Airport in the New York City borough of Queens.
In one of the photos, a traffic cone appears to be floating in the floodwaters.
One passenger documented her journey to LaGuardia Airport in her Uber Friday morning, showing water outside her vehicle coming up nearly to the window.
The video, posted by X user Devonta White, was recorded as she made her way to the airport in the car, which appeared to wobble as it trudged through the running water.

“Less than 5 minutes from LaGuardia Airport but a boat would have been the best option,” White said.
LaGuardia Airport announced before 11 a.m. that that Terminal A is closed and encouraged passengers to check their flight information regularly for any changes.
A TikToker on Friday posted a video showing her sloshing through inches of water pooled on the floor at LaGuardia. Some feet away from her is another passenger, who is crossing the airport barefoot in the shallow water.
"This would never happen at JFK [Airport]," someone can be heard saying on camera.
Other photos and videos posted to social media show heavy flooding on New York City roads and in the subways. Brave New Yorkers were caught on camera traversing down the stairs into the subway platform of the Grand Amy Plaza station in Brooklyn, which has been overtaken by running water.
Heavy rain and flooding have already caused disruptions to every single subway line operated by New York City’s Metropolitan Transit Authority, as The Messenger previously reported.
