New York Cop Kills Wife and Sons, 10 and 12, Before Shooting Himself in Their Home
An investigation into the apparent murder-suicide is ongoing
A sergeant of a New York police department killed his wife and two children before turning the gun on himself Saturday, authorities say.
Bronxville Police Sgt. Watson Morgan, 49, was found dead in his home alongside his wife Ornela Morgan, 43, and their two sons, ages 10 and 12 according to a release from The Clarkstown Police Department. All four had died from gunshot wounds, police add.
“At this phase of the investigation it is believed that Watson killed his wife and two children, prior to killing himself with a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Clarkstown Police police say in the release.
The four were discovered just after midnight on Saturday after police were called to the home in New City to perform a welfare check. A handgun was recovered and police say they believe the incident was isolated and the public is not in any danger.
Clarksville Police Detective Norm Peters tells the New York Post that there was no history of domestic violence at the Morgans’ residence. A neighbor told WNYW News that Sergeant Watson Morgan was “a very loving father, that's all I can say, very loving.”
CBS News reports that the Bronxville Police Department released a statement on Saturday announcing the deaths and saying their “hearts go out to Sergeant Morgan's extended family.”

“It is with profoundly broken hearts at the senseless loss of innocent lives that we send this message to a grieving community,” the statement began.
“Sergeant Morgan failed to appear for the evening shift last night and our Police Department contacted the Clarkstown Police Department in his hometown who made the discovery,” the department explained. “As we try to come to terms in a state of shock and sadness, we will continue to share with you what we can based on what the Clarkstown Police Department releases, as this is an ongoing investigation."
Bronxville Police added that Watson Morgan had joined them in 2007. He made detective in 2014 and was promoted to sergeant in 2016.
