New Earthquake With 5.9 Magnitude Hits Japan Days After Devastating Quake

Another earthquake has hit in the waters off of Japan Tuesday a week after a major earthquake that killed dozens hit the nation.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) says the magnitude 5.9 quake hit in the Sea of Japan about 55 km west-southwest of Sado, Japan.

The quake was considered moderate.

Shaking was mostly centered on the west coast of Japan but light shaking was felt as far away as Tokyo.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from Tuesday’s earthquake.

The New Year's Day 7.5 magnitude quake destroyed or damaged thousands of buildings.
