Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that “Israel will win,” in a social media post ahead of a planned national address this evening.

“We started,” the prime minister said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, including a video of Israeli rockets bombarding Gaza.

Shortly after posting the video on social media, it was announced that Netanyahu would make a statement to the people of Israel this evening, according to News Israel 13.

On Saturday evening, following Hamas’s initial sneak attacks on Israel, Netanyahu vowed to reduce Gaza to “rubble.”

In just one night, Sunday into Monday, the Israeli government said that it had struck more than 500 targets in Gaza, including mosques, a marketplace and refugee camps. The Israeli government has said that Hamas was operating out of some civilian locations, including one of the impacted mosques, according to the New York Times

These airstrikes have been accompanied by a “total siege,” ordered by Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The military leader said that “no electricity, no food, no water, no fuel,” would be allowed inside the blockaded region, which is home to two million people.

Hospitals in Gaza are reportedly overwhelmed by the number of injured people seeking treatment for burns and shrapnel wounds. The United Nation Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees is currently sheltering 73,538 Gaza residents, inside 64 of its schools.

At least 150 Israelis are currently being held captive by Hamas – including children and the elderly. An estimated 700 Israelis were killed in the initial days of fighting while thousands more have been wounded. At least 560 Palestinians were killed and 2,900 are wounded, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
