Authorities discovered 123 migrants, including 34 children, trapped inside a trailer in the central Mexican state of San Luis Potosi, Mexico's National Migration Institute (INM) said.

Mexico’s immigration agency said that those found are nationals of Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Ecuador, Cuba, and Honduras, according to a release from the INM cited by the BBC

The migrants were found after a local resident reported hearing cries from a locked trailer in Matehuala.

The INM said that the migrants were given food, medical assistance, and a temporary shelter.

U.S. cities have been struggling to shelter the influx of migrants coming from the U.S.-Mexico border over the past months. Officials in New York City and Chicago said they are experiencing a “migrant crisis” in their cities.

Since last October, the U.S. detained over 2.2 million migrants along the border, according to the BBC.

The Migration Policy Institute recently said in a report that the number of migrants living in the U.S. under conditional or temporary status under the Biden administration has reached a record status.

The report said that over 3.6 million migrants under parole have crossed into the U.S. over the last three years.
