Mom Who Gave Teen Daughter Abortion Pills Gets Sentenced Years in Prison

A Nebraska woman who helped her teenage daughter terminate her pregnancy has been sentenced to prison time, reports said.

Jessica Burgess pleaded guilty in July to helping her daughter, then 17, end her pregnancy in April 2022, KETV reported. Burgess was sentenced to two years in prison Friday by a Madison County judge. 

Police obtained private Facebook messages between Burgess and her daughter discussing how to use medication to end the pregnancy and made plans to burn the fetus after, the outlet reported. 

Her daughter, who prosecutors said aborted her pregnancy at 29 weeks, was sentenced to 90 days earlier this year for concealing or abandoning a dead body.

Nebraska law outlawed abortion after 20 weeks at the time. 
Court documents reveal that Facebook parent company Meta gave police the private messages, the Guardian reported.
