Single Mom Breaks World Record as Fastest Women’s Marathoner Pushing a Stroller: ‘I…Get a Piece of My Old Self Back’

Alyssa Puttkammer beat the previous record by more than 7 minutes

A single mom and her 19-month-old daughter set the world record for the fastest marathon time while pushing a stroller.

Alyssa Puttkammer and her daughter Blair competed in the Pacific Northwest Marathon in Oregon on September 16. Things got off to a bumpy start for the mother-daughter pair as they completed the first two miles.

"Blair started crying and continued to cry inconsolably for seven miles, which was torture for me," Puttkammer told FOX 13. "She finally drifted off to sleep for three miles and was happy and calm the rest of the race, thank goodness."

The Puttkammers finished with a 3:02:54 runtime, which is well ahead of the previous world record of 3:10:26.

“When we finally rounded the last turn and sprinted to the finish, everyone was cheering," Puttkammer said. "It didn't really sink in that I had broken the record."

The single mom from Utah says that her journey to the world record all began when she bought a jogging stroller.

"I cried as I put it together," recalls Puttkammer. "My whole life had been turned upside down and I was about to get a piece of my old self back."
