Bob the cat will return home after a decade and many miles away from his owner, Carol Holmes.

Holmes, who lives in Wichita, Kansas, said she lost Bob 10 years ago and received an email on her father’s birthday — Bob’s namesake — saying the feline was found in North Carolina.

“It was surreal. It really is. I was just so stunned,” Holmes told 12News

Holmes said a group was dedicated to returning Bob home, but it required she raise over $1,000. As of Tuesday afternoon, the GoFundMe set up to cover Bob’s travel costs had exceeded its goal.

Someone in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, found Bob and took him to the vet where he was scanned. His chip indicated he belonged to Holmes.

On Aug. 19, what would have been her father’s 94th birthday, Holmes learned she would soon be reunited with Bob.

“I wish that Bob could talk and tell us the story of what happened these 10 years,” Holmes said. “It’s very unusual to find a cat when they have been gone nearly a decade.”

Holmes said she’s working with the volunteer group Imagine Home to bring Bob back home, halfway across the country. Bob could be back in Holmes' arms as soon as Sept. 1.
