‘Angry’ New York Mayor Eric Adams Back in DC To Talk Migrant Crisis — Not Necessarily With Biden
Trip is a makeup for aborted visit last month when mayor suddenly ditched a White House meeting upon learning on arrival that his top campaign fundraiser had been raided by the FBI
New York City Mayor Eric Adams described himself as "angry" Thursday while heading back to Washington, D.C., to discuss the Big Apple's $12 billion migrant crisis with officials — who weren't set to include President Joe Biden.
But after meeting with powerful New York lawmakers and the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Adams reportedly scored a last-minute, 5:15 p.m. sit-down with some White House officials.
It was unclear with whom the mayor would get face time before a holiday party being thrown by the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, according to the New York Post, which didn't cite the source of its information.
Adams met earlier with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-New York, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-New York, and the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Post said.
Afterward, he reportedly told journalists that the FEMA meeting would open up a "menu of things" the agency could do to help the city, without providing any details.
Adams was initially scheduled to engage in the discussions on Nov. 2, but he abruptly turned around and headed home after landing in Washington when he learned about an FBI raid on the home of his chief fundraiser.
On his way to the nation's capital Thursday, Adams posted a video clip on X, formerly Twitter, in which he said he was making his 10th trip there to seek federal funding and "just really send a strong message: We need help."

"And to be clear, New Yorkers are angry. I'm angry," he said while sitting in an aisle seat of what appeared to be a largely empty passenger plane.
"I know that we should not be using our tax dollars on a national problem and I'm going to continue to voice my concerns on what's happening to the city that I love, the city that you love."
On Wednesday, the Post reported that Adams wasn't expected to meet with Biden but had been invited to the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs party along with guests that a White House spokesperson described as "countless other officials from across the country."
It was unclear if Biden would attend the event.
During a Q&A session on Tuesday, Adams told reporters he hadn't spoken to the president since "earlier this year or late last year."
In August, Adams said the cost of providing housing and other services to the city's migrant population, then around 100,000, would cost $12 billion through mid-2025.
Weeks later, he warned that he didn't "see an ending to this" and predicted direly, "This issue will destroy New York City."
Adams formerly called himself the "Biden of Brooklyn" and bragged about sharing the president's working-class roots.
But his relationship with the commander-in-chief soured after he said in April that "the president and the White House have failed this city" over the migrant crisis.
The following month, Biden's reelection campaign dropped Adams as a national surrogate for the president, Politico reported at the time, citing an updated roster of 50 prominent Democrats.
