A California woman has been arrested on suspicion of mailing a drug-laced letter to a San Diego County jail in an attempt to smuggle contraband to an inmate inside, authorities said.

Deputies at a mail processing center noticed that a letter that arrived on Aug. 23 appeared to have been soaked in an unknown liquid that had since dried.

Upon testing the letter, deputies found it had been soaked in liquid methamphetamine.

The Sheriff's Detention Investigations Unit alleged that Misty Vantine, 45, mailed the letter.

Detectives said they located and arrested Vantine in the parking lot of the George Bailey Detention Facility in Otay Mesa last Friday.

They also said Vantine had methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside her vehicle when she was arrested.

She was booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility on several charges, including bringing drugs into a jail, trying to sell a controlled substance to an individual in custody and conspiracy to commit a crime.
