Despite a frightening confrontation with an intimidating black bear, a lovable pup elicited a surprisingly friendly response - and his family captured it all on camera.

According to NBC Boston, Vincent Dunn’s 110-pound Great Pyrenees named Lars came face-to-face with the growling bear on his Cohasset, Mass., property on Monday.

"I was just reading the paper, looked over my shoulder at some motion and I'm like, ‘Wow, there's a black bear walking right through the yard,’" Dunn said.

"The bear was growling actually, but Lars was wagging his tail and kind of doing the sort of standard big dog greeting, and then I grabbed him," added Dunn, according to the outlet.

An electric fence around his yard kept the bear and Lars a few feet apart during their quick moment together.

"I kind of knew to go get him because I don't think they would've been friendly if they spent much more time together, and I don't think that would've been good for either of them because he's a giant dog and he's a big bear," Dunn explained.

Citing police in Cohasset, the outlet reports bear sightings need only be reported if the situation appears dangerous.
