When Mary Kay Letourneau died of Stage 4 cancer in 2020, the infamous former teacher had a lot of regrets — and specific hopes and dreams for her two daughters with husband Vili Fualaau.

"As her cancer got worse and she knew she didn't have much more time, she thought a lot about her kids' future," a longtime friend of Letourneau tells The Messenger. "She wanted them to shoot for the stars, to have unlimited potential."

She also hoped that her daughters would find the right type of partners.

"She wanted them to find people who were stable and adult," the friend says. "She didn't want them to make the same mistakes that she did."

Letourneau's second daughter with Vili, Georgia, 24, announced last month that she is pregnant. Vili's first grandchild expected to arrive in January.

There was no mention of the baby's father in the pregnancy announcement, which Georgia's older sister Audrey also shared on social media. Vili was not mentioned in the posts, either.

Letourneau was a married sixth-grade teacher in 1996 when she began sexually abusing Fualaau, who was then her 12-year-old student.

She twice became pregnant by Fualaau before he was 15. Daughter Audrey came first, followed by Georgia.

Letourneau spent 7 years in prison for child rape. By the time she was released, Fualaau was an adult. He petitioned the court to allow them to see each other. The couple married in 2005.

Letourneau's marriage with Fualaau lasted until 2017, when he filed for formal separation. Letourneau’s friend and former attorney David Gehrke confirmed the news at the time, saying that there was no third party involved in the split, but that the couple had simply grown apart.

Letourneau, who had older children from her first marriage, didn't live to see her daughters with Fualaau start families — although the friend says that she would be "thrilled" to learn that her youngest daughter is pregnant with her first child.

"This is what she wanted for the girls," says the friend. "She wanted them to grow up, start their families, and be happy. She wanted it to be non-problematic. She wanted it to be different than the life she had made for herself."
