The man said he found himself stranded on the cliffside when he tried to retrieve his two dogs that had wandered off the trail. Following his rescue, a technical rope team utilized a climbing kit to safely bring the dogs back up.

Fort Funston, celebrated for its stunning 200-foot high bluffs overlooking the ocean, is a popular hang-gliding spot.

"This marks our third rescue today, the first day of summer, which is one too many," the Department tweeted.

The National Park Service advises on Fort Funston's information page, "If your pet becomes stuck on the bluffs, do not attempt to retrieve it. The risk of falling is greater for you than for your pet."

Warning signs around several San Francisco trails alert to the fact that both people and dogs have sustained injuries from slipping and falling on cliff edges.

The fire department reported that the rescue concluded with no injuries.
